Asmara - November 22 2009

      Mr. Tekeste of the Asmara
Grande Travel Agency has invited me to visit the Martyrs Park near
Kahawta. It is a beautiful area just out of Asmara.
You need a local as a guide
and a permit to move freely through the area, since you may encounter
military, guarding the Asmara power supply.
      The track starts at the
Finnish Mission School. After two kilometers, a guide joins us to to show
us around. Breath taking views from the top of the Asmara plateau are the
reward for the climb to the top (following the guide on the small tracks
at the edge of the mountain requires some courage and fitness).
      The guide points to Mount
Bizen, partly hidden by clouds, the enormous stones (the make a line from
here to Tigray) and the fundaments of the former cableway.
At 12:00 we have lunch in the
city center. The rest of the day I will prepare for my trip to Keren.
