Asmara Eritrea - June 2nd 2004

 

It is time to say goodbye to all the family of my wife. Tonight I will leave. Feshaye, Yordanos, Tsehaitu, Haile, Freweini, Zewdi, Gebrehiwot, Gorzit, Hadgembes, Tabotu, Ethiopia. I told them not to buy any gifts. Being a regular visitor to Eritrea, we have plenty of berbere, ko'olo and other typical Eritrean food. But when I return to the apartment, I am loaded with gifts and letters for Mebrat.

I buy some last souvenirs: a few bottles of Asmara Zibib for 36 Nakfa (two dollars) a bottle. I do not need no more material souvenirs. The other souvenirs are the many pictures and nice memories. Eritrea is by now engraved in my heart.

Ghenet makes me my favorite food. Pasta with a berbere sauce. I make some last pictures to memorize a fantastic time. Thank you Terhas, Feshaye, Ghenet, Tsege, Hiab and Elilta. For three weeks I was part of the family.
